This Independent Reading Activities resource includes The Perfect Comprehension Questions for Any Book, a choice board with reading extension activities, and FUN reading response prompts for upper elementary and middle school students. The reading response comprehension questions, designed for teacher use, can serve as a guide for questions to ask your students as they independently read any book.

Here’s how to use the Comprehension Questions for Any Book Resource:

1. Print the questions and keep them on a clipboard to ask students during independent reading. Also included is a log to keep track of student understanding and questions asked. The question list is suitable for both fiction and nonfiction books.

2. Use the printable sticky notes to monitor students’ comprehension while they read or use them as an exit ticket from class. There are also reading responses to stick in a notebook or on paper with the same question stems.

3. Once students pick a reading extension activity, they can complete it using the included worksheets.
